Craig Luschenat - Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi for his career is shooting 38% from three and 44% from 16 feet to the three-point line. After calibrating all his miss fundamentals together against the rest of the NBA I can conclude that he is between a 37%-39% three-point shooter.

Kawhi is excellent with the basic fundamentals of holding his hands and staying vertical on his shot; both fundamentals were well into the elite percentile. Also, he has a very high number of good misses at 36%, which is just outside the elite shooters percentile of 39%. With slight adjustment to the two errors he currently commits I believe Kawhi could consistently shoot in the 40’s from three.

Kawhi has two main areas for improvement in his shot delivery. First, on pull-ups he shoots on the way down almost every time, both off the catch and dribble. This is also the area where his feet are most off balance during his delivery. As for his three-point shot, Kawhi does a great job of standing tall, holding hands, landing on balance. The problem is he doesn’t get enough lift on his shot and this causes a lot of short misses. He also doesn’t step into his shot enough, a lot of flat-footed catch and shoots. All elite shooters generate power from their legs and generate energy from their gather into the shot with a rhythm 1/2 step.
