Craig Luschenat - Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi for his career is shooting 38% from three and 44% from 16 feet to the three-point line. After calibrating all his miss fundamentals together against the rest of the NBA I can conclude that he is between a 37%-39% three-point shooter.

Kawhi is excellent with the basic fundamentals of holding his hands and staying vertical on his shot; both fundamentals were well into the elite percentile. Also, he has a very high number of good misses at 36%, which is just outside the elite shooters percentile of 39%. With slight adjustment to the two errors he currently commits I believe Kawhi could consistently shoot in the 40’s from three.

Kawhi has two main areas for improvement in his shot delivery. First, on pull-ups he shoots on the way down almost every time, both off the catch and dribble. This is also the area where his feet are most off balance during his delivery. As for his three-point shot, Kawhi does a great job of standing tall, holding hands, landing on balance. The problem is he doesn’t get enough lift on his shot and this causes a lot of short misses. He also doesn’t step into his shot enough, a lot of flat-footed catch and shoots. All elite shooters generate power from their legs and generate energy from their gather into the shot with a rhythm 1/2 step.

Breakdown: Per 100 Missed Shots:
1.     Dropped Hands: Totalà 18% of the time he missed.
2.     Falling/Fading Back: Totalà 12% of the time he missed.
3.     Feet off Balance: Totalà 14% of the time he missed.
4.     Good Misses: Totalà 36% of the time he missed.
5.     Shooting on the Way Down: Totalà 32% of the time he missed.
6.     Weak/No-Step into Shot: Totalà 26% of the time he missed.
7.     Missed Short: Totalà 35% of the time he missed.

Craig Luschenat - Pat McCaw

Craig Luschenat:

Pat for his career is shooting 32% from three and 28% from 16 feet to the three-point line. After calibrating all his miss fundamentals together against the rest of the NBA I can conclude that he is really between a 33%-35% three-point shooter. His miss fundamental totals were most comparable to Alec Burks.

Pat has two areas that he needs to address for him to become a really good shooter. First, he has a slight lean/fade in his shot that is throwing off the balance and lift he gets on his shot. Pat fade/leans at a 42% rate per 100 misses, while the elite shooters fade/lean rate is only 25%. Also, he has a tendency to drop his hands on his shot. When a player drops their hands at a high rate it means their release point is inconsistent, which means their makes will be inconsistent. Pat drops his hands at a 35% rate per 100 misses; elite shooters drop their hands on average 24% per 100 misses.

Pat has both solid form and high release point that don’t need to be adjusted. Also, he has good footwork and a decently high number of “Good Misses”, which is a positive sign for a young player. If he minimizes the two errors he commits I like his chances of becoming a good shooter.

Breakdown:  Per 100 Missed Shots:
1.     Leaning/Fading Back: Totalà 42% of the time he missed.
2.     Dropped Hands: Totalà 35% of the time he missed.
3.     Good Misses: Totalà 32% of the time he missed.
4.     Feet off Balance: Total à 12% of the time he missed.
5.     Missed Short: Totalà 29% of misses.

Craig Luschenat - Kevin Durant

Kevin really only has one problem in his shot delivery and that is the fade he has. He naturally fades on his shot, which is fine to a point. However, he has a tendency to lean back too far, which is the biggest reason why he misses. He fade/leans at a 42% rate per 100 missed shots, while the elite shooters average is only 25%.

Kevin, like all elite shooters, has great form, fundamentals and release point on his shot. He does a lot of things extremely well such as holding his hands, keeping his feet on balance, stepping into his shot, rarely missing short, and having a lot of good misses; all of these fundamentals are in the elite shooters percentile.

Breakdown:  Per 100 Missed Shots:
1.     Leaning/Fading Back: Totalà 42% of the time he missed.
2.     Dropped Hands: Totalà 10% of the time he missed.
3.     Good Misses: Totalà 38% of the time he missed.
4.     Feet off Balance: Total à 11% of the time he missed.
5.     Missed Short: Totalà 22% of misses.

Craig Luschenat - Draymond Green

Craig Luschenat:

Draymond for his career shoots 32% from three and 33% from 16 feet to the three-point line. After calibrating all his miss fundamentals together against the rest of the NBA I can conclude that he is between a 32%-34% three-point shooter.

Draymond doesn’t do one or two things that are very poor, but he does a lot of little things that really affect his shot. To begin he has a big dip in his shot, which is fine to a point, but there are times that this dip becomes a hunch. This is when it becomes a problem because he isn’t able to release the ball high, which in turn creates no lift on his shot (See Video Breakdown). Next, he is very inconsistent when receiving the ball; he does two things that really affect his shot, which are pausing or weak/not stepping into his shot. This again creates a couple problems, which are he never has a consistent delivery and he cant create lift on his shot.

On the positive side, Draymond has a solid shot delivery and has proven he can be a good shooter when he has good fundamentals. I believe if he fixes his errors he can shoot mid to high 30’s from three, like he did in 2015.

Breakdown:  Per 100 Missed Shots:
1.     Leaning/Fading Back: Totalà 25% of the time he missed.
2.     Dropped Hands: Totalà 31% of the time he missed.
3.     Good Misses: Totalà 14% of the time he missed.
4.     Feet off Balance: Total à 7% of the time he missed.
5.     Missed Short: Totalà 36% of misses.
6.     Weak/No-Step into Shot: Totalà 34% of misses.
7.     Pause Before Shot: Totalà 16% of misses.
